Match Report
It was windy and rainy but the pitch was in good condition. The one try line didn’t reach the posts and there were no flags but a few traffic cones and a group hug under the line-less posts later, we all seemed to be on the same page and more than ready to get going (and warm). Central proved to be the more aggressive unit and instantly applied pressure. Inexplicably while their lineout functioned well their scrum was under pressure most of the time. The Western pack had the drive on at every scrum it seemed. Kudos to the CWU number nine for clearing the ball as well as he did each time and fair play to his number ten for catching it each time. At half time, the men in black were thirteen points up. Western had been down to the Central twenty two a few times but had failed to capitalize each time. Western's most dangerous player for me was their number twelve whose bursts and strong running in the center gained ground each time. Each time though the black shirts were quick to surround him.

In the second half Western came out like men possessed in the first five minutes. They put together polished phases with quick ball and put Central firmly on the back foot. Their reward was a converted try. Unfortunately for the home side their spectacular rejuvenation was short lived and Central sealed the win with a penalty and converted try.

Lots of chat from players who should learn to save their oxygen for controlled aggression. The only really stupid moment came when the Central number ten decided he was Mike Tyson with twenty six seconds to go in the game. Fortunately for the Western target the black ten made a lousy boxer. Hopefully, he'll stick to drop goals. Best one I've seen for a long time.

Good game considering the conditions.

In the second team game Central ran out the winners but it was a close affair until the last fifteen minutes when Central scored three tries. With the wind largely disappearing both teams played long phases of play and stretched each others defenses. The Central front jumper impressed with his lineout work and tireless aggressive play in the loose. For Western, hats off to the whole pack who drove and tackled hard till the end.
