Due to the recent resignation by Rob Holder, Bob Ford (Ellensburg, Wash.) has been selected as the USA Men's National Team Manager for the Rugby World Cup in France.
Rob Holder, who has been managing the Men's National Team for the past year and a half, recently resigned from his position and withdrew his name from the Rugby World Cup management staff list for personal reasons.
"While I'm very grateful for the experience I've had during my time with the Eagles, I really need to refocus my attention on both my immediate and extended family," Holder explained.
CWU RUGBY Coach Bob Ford
named USA Men's National Team Manager
Although this will be the first National Team Bob Ford has managed, he recently served as the U.S. Falcons Manager during the 2007 North America 4 Tournament and was present at the skills camp in San Diego. Ford also brings a lot of past rugby experience as well as management skills to the table with his recent positions as head coach of the Pacific Northwest RFU and Central Washington Men's Rugby Team and Manager of the Pacific Coast Collegiate Grizzlies. Professionally, Ford has severed Central Washington University for the past 5 years and is currently the Assistant Director of University Recreation responsible for the operations of a new state of the art Recreation facility.
"I have a lot of respect and admiration for Rob Holder, and I wish him the best as he moves forward," Ford said.
"It is hard not to be excited about a chance to work with the best athletes in USA Rugby. This is definitely a big job and a lot of work, but any time you get a chance to serve your country and work with a great group of people, you have to be nothing but excited. Opportunities like this do not come along very often and I am fortunate to be considered for this position," Ford added.
Rob had a very important role to play for the Eagles and without him it would have taken several months longer to get where we are now and we're very indebted to him for that," Head Coach Peter Thorburn said.
"In working with Bob recently, he's shown diligence, promptness and efficiency, which was apparent in his role with the U.S. Falcons, as well as the first skills camp in San Diego, and we are happy to have him on board," Thorburn added.
